OCT Tissue Bank (Coming soon)
Human Amniotic Membrane (hAM) is the innermost layer of fetal membranes, which surrounds the developing fetus and forms the amniotic cavity. Upon birth, these discarded tissues can be collected and used for various applications in wound care. It acts as a highly biocompatible natural scaffold and is a source of several types of stem cells and potent growth factors. Due to its high entrapment properties, it also serves as an effective nano-reservoir for drug delivery. When applied to wounds it increases and enhances the wound healing process due to the presence of significant cytokines and also has anti- bacterial properties.
At OCT we collect hAM from hospitals after informed consent. Adhering to the highest standards of quality, we make this versatile biological dressing available for use in various applications which include ophthalmic surgeries, as a dressing for diabetic wounds, for pressure ulcers (bed sores) and burns. For example, burns victims may suffer huge skin loss and surgeons are can have ready-to-use options for the covering and dressing of large wounds. Human amnion banking will help address the needs of trauma patients where early skin cover will aid in quicker recovery, reduced hospitalization and improve the quality of patients’ lives.
